I've learned a lot about human nature of my short 21 years of life. I've learned that I'm overtly critical of myself, and the expectations that I place upon my own head are nothing short of ridiculous. Normally I'm not one to give in to certain characteristics, but for as much as I'd like to disagree, I am human, and I now understand that I will constantly continue to fight some of my very basic instincts, while embracing others. As humans, the need for companionship is almost irreplaceable. The need for acceptance is just as valuable. Placing "I" before "others" is a basic human instinct that we cannot entirely erase from our mental makeup. Placing "I" and "others" on the same level is even rarer. Human nature dictates the creation of importance in us, and the need for a higher "power". We create religion as a method for coping, for strength, for morale, because as human nature dictates, we cannot just abide by a universal truth and get through life TOGETHER. We separate ourselves from each other, sectioning off those that do not fit in with our color, religion, orientation, and only the strong survive as we tread upon the weak. Although I do not exactly believe that we are the only intelligent life in existence, if we are alone, (which for as expansive as the Universe is, we could never travel out of our solar system anyways, so it is like being all alone) why are we choosing to continually destroy what we have? I know it is instinct, to take what we can get, and to continue taking more, but that is a choice that we can bring about into our conscious, to change over time, and possibly override that human instinct. We have one planet to call home, and one species like ourselves, so why can't we all try to get along (try is the key word here), and change the way we act upon or instincts? We will be the downfall of us all, and we will only have ourselves to blame. Maybe that's the point, we are one speck of existence on this planet, and when we're gone, something will take our place, and the cycle continues on. Humbling right?
I'm only certain of a few things, and the wonder of this Universe is one.
